I didn't get into watches because of technical specs or movement complications. It started with an old pocket watch sitting inside my mom's china cabinet.
My dad had placed my grandfather’s railroad watch on display right next to the fine crystal and porcelain. As a kid, I spent hours staring through the glass at it. It was heavy, functional, and felt completely different from everything else in the house.
Years later, my godfather willed me his collection of vintage wristwatches. That was my real introduction to wearing and living with mechanical pieces. But then the unexpected happened—my house was broken into, and every single watch was stolen.
Losing those pieces hurt, especially given the history behind them. But once the insurance claim cleared, I made a choice: I took that money and decided to build a collection from scratch. Scouring listings, studying reference numbers, verifying original condition, and chasing down clean dials turned a casual interest into a real obsession.
Years after I started building my own collection, my father officially passed that original railroad pocket watch down to me. Having it in hand brought everything full circle—a tangible connection to where the obsession first took root.
Around that same time, my focus was shifting into fine art and object collecting, which eventually led to opening CUFFLINK ART, a contemporary gallery. Running the gallery sharpened my eye. It taught me how to evaluate provenance, respect original condition, and ignore short-lived trends in favor of lasting quality.
It didn't take long to realize that great watches deserve the exact same approach. The level of hand-finishing on a movement or the balance of a vintage dial requires the exact same mastery as a fine piece of sculpture or painting.
That's why we built Art House Horology. We wanted to skip the standard watch-dealer noise and run a boutique sourcing firm that treats timepieces like the curated objects they are.
